Adjustment notices are communications received by companies from INPS (the Italian National Social Security Institute), indicating discrepancies between employer-calculated contributions and those calculated by INPS in force of its regulations. These may either indicate additional contributions owed to INPS (debit adjustments) or overpayments to be refunded to the employer (credit adjustments).
When an employee is injured, and it is determined that the employer is not at fault, compensation is provided by both the employer and INAIL (the Italian National Institute for Insurance against Workplace Injuries). The employer is responsible for the first three days of the employee’s recovery period, including the day of the accident. From the fourth day onward, INAIL covers the costs at varying compensation rates.
The employees must promptly notify their employer, depending on their health condition and the time required for their doctor or the emergency room to issue a medical prognosis. The employer, within 48 hours from becoming aware of the injury details—or within 24 hours in the case of a fatal or life-threatening injury—must file an injury report using the online procedures provided by INAIL.
